From 1955 to 1982 Carl Orff lived at Dießen am Ammersee. He enjoyed the site in the remote area called Ziegelstadel as his artistic and private retreat. The originally preserved study with its collection of scores and books constitutes the unique characteristic of the site. Consequently it takes centre stage in the exhibition concept.

By exploring his study, visitors are invited to immerse into the composer’s diverse interests and ideas. Books and scores are digitally accessible in order to provide a comprehensive understanding of Carl Orff’s work including the broader context of musical tradition, visual and performing arts at his time.

bk-konzepte were tasked with developing a project outline regarding conversion into a museum of the estate owned by the Carl-Orff-Stiftung. The aim was to open the site to the public and to attract local visitors as well as international guests and music experts.

A call for tender in architecture was conducted in 2019. bk-konzepte contributed to it by compiling a mission statement, a collection report, an operating concept as well as a spatial and functional development plan. A concept outline was drafted for the purpose of a call for tenders on design services.

The museum opened its doors on November 2, 2025.
