Museum Werdenfels
Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain
The summit cross of the Zugspitze mountain dating from 1851 is the most well-known symbol for Museum Werdenfels. Multi-faceted topics are presented through the museum collection reflecting the cultural history of Germany’s highest peak. In July 2019 the exhibition was opened to establish a family-friendly attraction within the museum.
The storyline of the exhibition is based on a mountain ascent. By starting at the foothills, visitors learn about the historical background of the mountain region. They pass by the story of cableways and mountain refuges until they finally reach the summit ascent.
An interactive touchscreen places all historical events along a timeline. Visitors are invited to learn more about the first mountain ascents and the summit cross. The exhibition offers an experience trail for children with various activities along the imagined hike up the mountain.
