Art and stage. The influence of Munich Jugendstil on theatre
Around the turn of the 20th century, Munich experienced a “theatre boom”: new stages were constructed and private ensembles were founded by artists and writers.
The temporary exhibition took visitors on a trip back in time by providing a glimpse into five theatre venues and highlighting the Munich Artists’ Theatre built in 1908. Essential reform ideas were traced back to introduce key players, their thoughts and experiments, and their influence.
Digital and hands-on theatre models were included to showcase upheavals in stage aesthetics at the beginning of the modern age.
